Continuing on the theme of awards, it’s time to highlight the overrated and underrated player for each Premier League team. Chelsea fans don’t click off! Your team will actually get a mention in this article.

Manchester City

OVERRATED: Nobody - Everybody put in a good performance for the team when called up to play. Aymeric Laporte and Phil Foden could be contenders since they weren’t picked that often this season, but it was less about their performance and more that other players played really well.

UNDERRATED: Riyad Mahrez - Mahrez quietly plays well each season because he doesn’t get as much attention from the media as a player like Jack Grealish. Maybe an english bias…

Arsenal

OVERRATED: Gabriel Jesus - Injuries ruined his season, but when he did play it was nothing special. Maybe he scored a goal here and there, but as Arsenal's starting striker, he needs to do better.

UNDERRATED: Granit Xhaka - what a turnaround of fortune for him. In 2020, Xhaka would get booed by his own fans and he almost transferred out of the club. Fast forward three years, he is leaving the club as a true leader.

Manchester United

OVERRATED: Wout Weghorst - Let’s be honest, the fans only liked Weghorst because he was passionate, but the guy could not score if his life depended on it! Not to mention he was very slow. United fans should be thankful he is at the club on loan.

UNDERRATED: Anthony - The media were quick to hate on Anthony after he did his trademark spin move in a Europa League match. His work rate on and off the ball is worth noting and his speed has been deadly for United this season on counter-attacks. Next season, Anthony needs to focus on finding a pass rather than taking shots from outside the box, but besides that, he’s a solid option for United.

Newcastle

OVERRATED: Allan Saint-Maximin - He is a very skillful player and on the wing he has posed problems for defenders, but just one goal and five assists all season is disappointing.

UNDERRATED: Joelinton - His Newcastle career started out with him as a forward with a concerning goal drought. After making the switch to midfield, Joelinton has transformed his game and he has solidified himself as a key player in Newcastle’s rotation.

Liverpool

OVERRATED: Trent Alexander-Arnold - He is a fantastic player, but Alexander-Arnold would be even better if Jurgen Klopp played him as a number eight or on the right wing. As a defender, he is inconsistent. He started his career as a winger so why not try it again?

UNDERRATED: Darwin Nunez - There is a player there. Rival fans and the media are quick to hate on Nunez, but in his debut season he scored 15 goals in all competitions. Something tells me Nunez will come alive next season.

Brighton

OVERRATED: Billy Gilmour - He was an exciting player at Chelsea, now he barely plays.

UNDERRATED: Evan Ferguson - The guy is only 18 years old and he is a starting striker for one of the best teams in England. Ferguson will easily become one of the best forwards in England.

Aston Villa

OVERRATED: Leon Bailey - He’s a good option for Villa but he doesn’t contribute enough. It may be time for Villa to explore the market for new wingers.

UNDERRATED: John McGinn - He deserves some credit from the media. McGinn will always put in a good shift for Villa.

Tottenham:

OVERRATED: Hugo Lloris - Lloris is past his prime and has made way too many game-defining mistakes this season. Spurs need a new goalie.

UNDERRATED: Ivan Perisic - Tottenham’s good defensive performances are often credited to Cristian Romero, but Perisic also plays a big role in both the defense and attack.

Brentford

OVERRATED: Kevin Schade - He’s not bad, he just doesn’t play enough and when he did play he never scored. When Toney was unavailable, winger Yoane Wissa replaced him, not back-up forward Schade.

UNDERRATED: With that being said, Yoane Wissa has been a good replacement when Toney was suspended. Wissa is a threat to every defense he plays against, and he isn’t even an out-and-out forward.

Fulham

OVERRATED: Manor Solomon - I think he’s a good player, but he needs to play more games because his season stats are low (four goals, zero assists).

UNDERRATED: Willian - After a terrible spell at Arsenal and moving to Brazil, nobody would have imagined Willian, at 34 years old, would come back to the Premier League and help lead newly promoted Fulham to tenth place in the table.

Crystal Palace

OVERRATED: Wilfried Zaha - He is injured a lot and I think he missed his chance to move to a bigger club a few years ago. For some reason Zaha is still seen as Palace’s star, when players like Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze tend to carry their team to victory.

UNDERRATED: Marc Guehi - He has been solid for Palace and deserves to be recognized by England manager Gareth Southgate.

Chelsea

OVERRATED: Mykhaylo Mudryk - What a waste of 100 million pounds.

UNDERRATED: Joao Felix - I think he deserved a little more credit than he got from his coaches this season. He sat on the bench a few times despite being the only player who came close to actually scoring goals for Chelsea this season.

Wolves

OVERRATED: Matheus Nunes - For the amount of money Wolves paid, Nunes was a bit of a ghost in the midfield.

UNDERRATED: José Sá - Wolves found it very hard to score this season. Sá earned 11 clean sheets this season, and Wolves fans should thank him for keeping the team in the Premier League.

West Ham

OVERRATED: Gianluca Scamacca - Even though injuries impacted his season, he still only scored three goals in 11 games.

UNDERRATED: Lucas Paquetá - I actually think West Ham fans rate him highly, but in terms of world-wide attention, he deserves more with the performances he’s put in this season.

Bournemouth

OVERRATED: Kieffer Moore - Didn’t score enough goals this season. Even though he is 6’5, he didn’t pose enough of an aerial threat.

UNDERRATED: Dominic Solanke - with Moore struggling to score goals, Solanke stepped in and helped Bournemouth stay up.

Nottingham Forest

OVERRATED: Orel Mangala - As the heart of the midfield, Mangala was alright, but he could have been better.

UNDERRATED: Brennan Johnson - Great young forward for Forest, they will want to keep him for next season. Morgan Gibbs-White as well, a solid midfielder for the club.

Everton

OVERRATED: Dominic Calvert-Lewin - He is over hyped by Everton fans. A player who is often injured and when he’s actually on the pitch, he is barely noticeable.

UNDERRATED: Alex Iwobi - He is the heart of the midfield and attack for Everton. His work-rate is fantastic. Iwobi is a player who plays for the badge, not just for himself.

Leicester City

OVERRATED: James Maddison - He was poor this season, and isn’t the player he used to be.

UNDERRATED: Peter Schmeichel - Yes, he doesn’t play for the club anymore. Notice that when he left, Leicester went from a solid team competing for European spots, to a defensively woeful and relegated team.

Leeds

OVERRATED: IIIan Meslier - He was a solid keeper for Leeds in their debut season back in 2020/21, but he has underperformed the last two seasons which was a factor in the team’s relegation.

UNDERRATED: Rodrigo - Leeds could always rely on his goals this season. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to keep them up.

Southampton

OVERRATED: Probably the whole team. The Saint’s have a squad filled with “young talents” but ultimately, they were the worst team in the league.

UNDERRATED: I did just say their young talents were poor, but Armel Bella-Kotchap was a solid defender for Southampton. If they can keep hold of him this summer, he is a solid option.
