The season is three weeks away, and most teams have done plenty of business to shape their squad ahead of the new Premier League season. I wrote an article back in June about my early table predictions.
Here are my mid-summer Premier League table predictions:
1. Manchester City
June prediction: 1st
I said they’ll win it back in June and I’m sticking with my choice. Man City are so good they don’t need to sign a bunch of players. Pep and City are ruthless and I expect them to win it again.
2. Liverpool
June prediction: 3rd
I think Liverpool will bounce back from last season, and with Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis MacAllister in, the Reds will be the team to beat next year.
3. Arsenal
June prediction: 5th
To be fair, my original prediction was made before Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber came in. I don’t think Arsenal will be up there with City and Liverpool but I definitely think they will stay in the top four.
4. Manchester United
June prediction: 4th
Nothing has changed here. With Andre Onana and Mason Mount in and potentially Rasmus Hojlund and Sofyan Amrabat, I think United will have a good season.
5. Newcastle
June prediction: 2nd
Newcastle have only signed Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes while the other big teams have made big improvements to their squad. Unless others join, I think they will struggle next season.
6. Aston Villa
June prediction: 7th
Pau Torres and Moussa Diaby are huge signings for Villa. I believe they will achieve Europa League football for next season. Unai Emery is building something special!
7. Chelsea
June prediction: 6th
Chelsea have sold practically their entire team and so far they’ve only signed Nico Jackson and Christophe Nkunku. I think they’ll do better than last season but the Blues aren’t ready to challenge for the top four again.
8. Brighton
June prediction: 8th
No changes. Brighton are selling their star players and the replacements aren’t as good. Joao Pedro signed to be the starting forward for the Seagulls but Pedro struggled to score goals in the Premier League with Watford, I don’t think he’s ready to score 15 goals this season.
9. Tottenham
June prediction: 10th
Only if Harry Kane stays, if not, I’ll go back to putting them 10th.
10. Brentford
June prediction: 9th
I don’t think Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbuemo will score enough goals to replace Toney for half the season. 10th is still a solid finish for Brentford.
11. Fulham
June prediction: 11th
Alexandr Mitrovic is leaving but Raul Jimenez is joining Fulham. Calvin Bassey is also set to sign for the Cottages, so I don’t think Fulham have to worry about relegation this season. I also don’t think they will fight for European places.
12. Everton
June prediction: 19th
I know I said Everton can’t survive relegation for the third year in a row, but I’ve had a change of heart. The Toffee’s new stadium is set to open at the start of the 2024/25 season and I believe that will inspire the team to stay in the league and play in their new stadium as a Premier League team. Everton haven’t made any major signings apart from Arnaut Danjuma but they’ve retained key players like Amadou Onana and Jordan Pickford.
13. Burnley
June prediction: 15th
Burnley have been active and signed a lot of players this window which will improve their squad. Last season, Burnley ripped the Championship apart. With their new signings, I believe they will comfortably stay in the division.
14. Bournemouth
June prediction: 14th.
Bournemouth have made some signings, but I don’t think they will finish below or above 14th. Although second season syndrome is a very real thing, I doubt it will hurt the Cherries.
15. Crystal Palace
June prediction: 12th
They always finish twelfth, but they haven’t signed a single player besides Jefferson Lerma. Star player Wilfried Zaha has left and Michael Olise is a target for Manchester City. I think they’ll be safe from relegation, but they should worry about next season if nothing changes.
16. Nottingham Forest
June prediction: 16th
No changes here, Forest have done well fending off interest from rival clubs for their star players. On top of that, they’ve signed the Swedish talent Anthony Elanga from Manchester United with Dean Henderson soon to follow potentially. Forest should be fine.
17. Luton Town
June prediction: 17th
I don’t care, I will stay true to this prediction! I know that at the end of the day, passion beats money!! Who doesn’t love a good underdog story??
18. West Ham
June prediction: 13th
No more Declan Rice, no real goal-scoring number nine, and a manager who is clearly past his prime. Sorry Hammers fans but I think this is the end of the Premier League road for West Ham.
19. Sheffield United
June prediction: 18th
I can’t see that Sheffield United team competing in the Premier League, maybe if they sign some standout players, but that’s unlikely.
20. Wolves
June prediction: 20th
This team has no passion anymore. The Wolves team from 2018-2020 had belief that they were good enough to be the best. Now, in 2023, they have sold both their captain Ruben Neves and their star defender Nathan Collins and haven’t replaced either of them, and their main forward Raul Jimenez has moved to Fulham. What a shame.
Be sure to check back in August to see my final Premier League table prediction for the season!
