15 minutes into the game, Tottenham once again is getting battered 3-0; the game is as good as over already. A Kane and Son goal gives unexpected hope to Spurs, making it 3-2. In the 93rd minute, Son whips the ball into the danger area, and Richarlison gets his head to the ball to head it into the ground and loop over Allison to make it a miraculous 3-3 comeback for Tottenham. The away end goes mad; this is surely one of the best comebacks in Premier League history. Allison sends a long ball to Lucas Moura, who plays one of the best one-touch passes to Jota, who goes and makes it 4-3 to Liverpool. How Tottenham of them.
Spurs are going through one of the most up-and-down seasons ever. At first, it was good; they were sitting comfortably in the top four under Antonio Conte until the results weren’t coming, and Conte quit after his famous public rant after the 3-3 draw against Southampton as he labeled the players as “losers” and that they are “used to losing.” Since leaving, Tottenham have been a mess! They are getting battered left, right, and center, and they can’t find a way to fix it. Going 2-0 after 5 minutes has become routine for this club. A club that 6 years ago was competing for Premier Leagues and Champions Leagues is now begging for mercy away at Newcastle and Liverpool, but why?
Since Mauricio Pochettino was fired in 2019, this club has been going through a severe identity crisis. They have become a team of individuals who couldn’t be asked to play with pride. When Poch left, confidence and passion left with him. Under Poch, they were the “almost club.” They came close to winning the Premier League in 2016 and the Champions League in 2019. The Champions League final loss to Liverpool was a turning point for the club because they have fallen apart since then. Players like Dele Alli, a man tipped to be one of the best British players of this generation, gave up, followed by speculation of Harry Kane begging other clubs for a way out. Last season Son-Heung-Min was the starboy for Spurs, but this year, he has no more confidence and is struggling to find some consistent form.
The pressure has been put on club owner Daniel Levy to sell the club to owners willing to spend some serious money on the club. Spurs need an owner willing to spend some money on the club. Daniel Levy has been neglecting the club for years. It’s been made apparent since the club can’t spend too much money on players and the wage bill at the club is no higher than 100k a week, players like Harry Kane and Son will eventually want to make more money since they give it their all week after week. Spurs need to spend another summer buying 5-7 players, but they need to buy the right players. They also need a manager like Julien Nagelssmann, a well-respected coach around Europe and he is young so he has a good ten years in him.
Another thing Spurs need to do is lower their expectations. Every year they want to get top four and challenge for European success and the Premier League. They should aim to win a trophy, something like the Carabao Cup, to bring back the dressing room's confidence. Harry Kane has become one of the best strikers in England and is undoubtedly the best Tottenham player ever, but it’s time to go. Every summer, Kane publicly requests to leave Spurs, and it's an unnecessary distraction for the club and causes a divide in the dressing room if their best player wants out every year.
These fans have been put through a massive emotional roller coaster for years as a Spurs fans, and they deserve to be supported by their club. These fans have spent their weekends and spent their money traveling to watch a Spurs game, and frankly, they deserve to get a refund. Spurs should fix their clubs' problems for the fans and not just for trophies. Supporters are the heart of a sports team, and once you lose the fans, you lose most of the club.
Everyone can agree that Spurs need to do something significant to get back on the right track towards success for the club. What Tottenham need to do this summer is let Harry Kane go and sign a young and established forward like Dusan Vlahovic or Victor Osimhen, or they can go for the young and promising forward Rasmus Hojlund. Tottenham have been a major club for so many years, and it’s time to validate their success with some silverware.
