AND WE'RE BACK! Well, not quite. Manchester City is poised to face off against Arsenal in this season's Community Shield, scheduled for 11 a.m. Eastern Time at the renowned Wembley Stadium.
Arsenal and City treated fans to a spectacular showdown last season as they fought for the Premier League title. Ultimately, City emerged victorious, securing their third consecutive championship. Subsequently, Manchester City triumphed over cross-town rivals Manchester United in the F.A. Cup final with a 2-1 scoreline, courtesy of former City player Ilkay Gundogan, who netted both goals for the Citizens. The wins did not stop there; City also clinched their first-ever Champions League trophy in the club's history, with Rodri's strike sealing a 1-0 victory over Inter Milan.

The Gunners experienced a resurgence under the guidance of Mikel Arteta last season. Prominent forwards Martin Ødegaard, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Martinelli found the back of the net, contributing to Arsenal's valiant effort against City. Unfortunately, slip-ups against Brighton, West Ham, and Liverpool shattered Arsenal's hopes of securing their first league title since their memorable undefeated season in 2004.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola publicly expressed concerns about his team's fitness due to their packed fixture schedule leading up to the Premier League season kickoff. Despite this, fitness has rarely posed a problem for the Citizens, due to their remarkable squad depth. As it stands, Portuguese duo Bernardo Silva and Joao Cancelo remain with the club, bolstering City's bench. Fresh from a remarkable 52-goal season for the Citizens, Erling Haaland will be eager to make an early impact in today's game. Pep's men are undoubtedly the favorites in this matchup.
Arteta has made significant acquisitions this summer, securing talents like Jurrien Timber from Ajax, Kai Havertz from Chelsea, and Declan Rice from West Ham in a record-breaking £105 million deal. Starting forward Gabriel Jesus sustained an injury earlier this week, ruling him out for the first few weeks of the season. Arsenal will rely on either Eddie Nketiah or Florian Balogun to find the back of the net today. The challenge will be formidable for Arteta's squad, but they are determined to put up a strong fight.
Now, only time will tell...
